ÁÚËÃÀÐÑÊÀ ÂÅÐÑÈß
Bulgarian Association for Geospatial Information Systems was founded on the 15th November 2004 in Sofia.

The Association was founded as a non-profit organization. Its main goals are:

  • To promote and provide knowledge and information about Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI)
  • To assist for creating a more effective environment for wider implementation and use of the GIS technology in Bulgaria
  • To encourage the educational, scientific, innovative and practical activities in the field if GIS
  • To foster the dialogue between the government and the private sector
  • To work for a higher qualification of the GIS specialists

In order to achieve its goals the Association performs the following activities:

  • Provide information about latest GIS standards, technology achievements, etc.
  • Increases the knowledge of publicity regarding Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI);
  • Popularizes the benefit of using standards and high technologies in the sphere of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI);
  • Website support and issuing of information bulletins, advertisement materials and books;
  • Organizes and coordinates courses with educational purposes;
  • Ministers introduction of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI) subjects in high schools and universities;
  • Organizes and leads seminars and conferences;
  • Enters proposals in front of competent agencies for creation of effective law and regulation frames in the sphere of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI);
  • Consults government and public institutions about specific problems, connected with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI);
  • Works in cooperation with related organizations for mutual interest subjects;
  • Searches international contacts, is a member or supports business connections with international organizations, commitments and associations, regarding the problems about Association’s goals and mission.

To fulfill its goals, Association has an additional activity for members’ and followers’ support, which is connected straight with the main activity of Association and is as follows:

  • Offers information about technology development, standards and cases that have the best practice in the sphere of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI), as well as for European initiatives, local and international law frames;
  • Mediates and supports its members for financiering by grants or agreements;
  • Supports concrete or general demands of members and followers of the Association in front of Government and other institutions and organizations, when their law interests are neglected.
  • Collects, analyzes and populates among its members and followers information about Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI).
  • Develops and offers materials to its members and followers, which refer to their activity in the sphere of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI);
  • Accomplishes contacts and populates the activity of its members and followers, using conferences, meetings, seminars, symposiums, etc.
  • Creates database of specialists and consultants in the sphere of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Geospatial Information (GI);

By now the Association has encompassed the following working groups:

  • Regional planning and Local government
